Dataran Merdeka, also known as Merdeka Square, is a historic public square located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The square is significant because it was the site of Malaysia's declaration of independence on August 31, 1957. A 100-meter flagpole, one of the tallest in the world, stands in the center of the square and flies the Malaysian national flag.
